Everyday adventures;

,
Today, at 2 pm, I'm going to Vicious Ink, in Rochester, to meet with Josh Durany, a tattoo artist. He's supposed to get started working on my mermaid tattoo. It's a birthday gift, and I couldn't be more excited.

I chose a mermaid, not because it's recently become a fashion fad, or because people go on and on about how I look like one with my pastel hair, and because it's blatantly a more cliche' tattoo idea, but I actually have pretty big personal reasons- Since I was a little girl, I had always identified with Disney's The Little Mermaid. Like most little girls, I sang all the songs, and named all my pets after the characters in the movie, and yadda yadda- childhood. It wasn't until I turned 15 that I truly was inspired by Arial, and her role in the film. She had a dream. She wanted something that no one else did, and growing up in a family with 5 siblings, can be exhausting. When you have a family, that's decently big, everyone in the family has their roles. Everyone has their own dreams and aspirations, but they all line up so prim and properly with my Parents idea of a 'safe' lifestyle. Go to school, get a degree, get a job, get married, get pregnant, get older, die. ...I'm sorry, but that really isn't, and wasn't my cup of tea. I wanted adventure, to try something no one else wanted to. I desired a life that held no guarantee of being 'safe', or 'easy'. ( Sadly, we're at a point in the economy where even the 'American Dream', isn't a safe lifestyle.) I wanted to go places no one had gone, see things no one had seen, and experience life at a different level. To drench myself in the beauty of the unknown. So? at 16, despite my parents discouragement, I left. My parents supported me, just not so much my decisions, and by decisions, I took a roadtrip, a big one. I jumped from state to state with a bestfriend of mine, experiencing life. I moved officially back home this last August, and I already miss being on the road. Arial, despite everyone's harsh words, she took a leap of faith, and even though the road got bumpy every now and again, she still proceeded to prove them all wrong, she proved that the unknown may not be safe, but it's a hell of a lot more exciting. This tattoo is in dedication to not only that part of my life, but that idea.

Make sure it's worth watching."
